Saving Money On Food

With our economy, everyone is trying to cut costs. Here are some simple ways that you can cut your cost of living without feeling like you're going without.

How to Cut the Cost of Your Food

Buy in Bulk
Find a friend or relative to split large bulk purchases with, and have fun shopping. I pay less for cheese, meats, rice, flour, sugar, ketchup and mustard when I shop at warehouse stores like Costco or Sams. If you want a cheaper price on vegetables, go to the local farmer's market. You can buy a whole box of tomatoes for the price of two pounds in the supermarket.
Plant a Garden
I know what your thinking. It's too much work and effort to do this, but if you do it right it's not too hard or time consuming. Get a large container, and fill it wit potting soil. Plant a tomato or two, some lettuce and cucumbers. It will work as a salad garden. When the plants start producing, you'll love it.
Eating In
Cook more cassarole and one dish meals. Things like chicken pot pie or chicken and rice can be made quickly and cost's less than a big meal.
Make more meatless meals. Things like spaghetti or lasagna can be made without meat. Taking the meat out cuts the cost of the meal by several dollars without taking away the taste. It makes the dish healthier for your family at the same time.
